Kolkheti Wetland Fix: Restoration Roadmap for Paliastomi Lake and Kaparcha Connectivity

Situated on Georgia’s Black Sea coast within the Samegrelo–Zemo Svaneti region, Poti Municipality spans a mosaic of river mouths, wetlands, and coastal plains. The city of Poti covers about 65.8 km², while the wider municipality extends to roughly 44,600 hectares, encompassing ecologically sensitive zones.

Priority actions include restoring more natural flow regimes and reconnecting wetlands; improving pollution control and wastewater management; deploying early warning and rapid-response measures for invasive algal blooms; and reducing salinity hot spots through targeted hydraulic works.
