European Ocean Days – Brussels

DaWetRest proudly participated in the European Ocean Days, represented by our coordinator, Katerina Batchvarova from the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences.

DaWetRest participation shows our commitment to freshwater conservation and restoration efforts. By engaging in Ocean Days, our project’s vision was integrated into the broader agenda, reinforcing the importance of implementing a holistic approach to safeguarding our water resources.

During the event, DaWetRest joined forces with EcoDaLLi, DANUBE4all, DALIA, and Restore4Life. This collaboration allowed the projects to exchange knowledge, create synergies, and work towards common goals. Each project was represented by their respective coordinating institutions, with the Climate, Atmosphere, and Waters Research Institute at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences representing DaWetRest.

The Ocean Days aimed to bring stakeholders together and reflect on defining the priorities for our European Oceans taking into consideration the complex interconnections of our society, between community, policy needs, economy, and technology and social transformations. The event’s programme included the following themes:

  • Global drivers
  • Economy
  • Society
  • Innovation

For each theme, speakers facilitated discussions about opportunities, enablers, barriers, and interlinkages, with perspectives ranging from 2030 to 2050.

Over the course of five days, the Mission Restore our Ocean And Waters Forum will integrate an agenda aimed at catalysing actions and dialogues towards the preservation and sustainable development of our marine environments.

  • Day 1: An exclusive Matchmaking event for networking among EU Mission projects, Charter signatories, philanthropists, and key stakeholders.
  • Day 2: The 2nd Annual Mission Restore our Ocean and Waters Forum, focused on assessing progress, mobilizing stakeholders, and showcasing innovative solutions.
  • Day 3: Discussions on shaping the future of Europe’s Seas, considering policy, economic, and societal perspectives up to 2050.
