World Water Day at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences

Over 100 pupils and students gathered on Friday, 22nd of March, in the hall of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences in Sofia to celebrate World Water Day.

Aiming to raise awareness about the importance of water and to highlight the global water crisis, the Climate, Atmosphere, and Water Research Institute at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (CAWRI-BAS), in cooperation with three schools, organized competitions among students for posters, paintings, presentations, and essays devoted to water and the challenges highlighted by the EU Mission Ocean and Waters. The objective was to engage students creatively and informatively in addressing water issues. All paintings and posters were exhibited, and the top-ranked presentations and essays were showcased. Additionally, 2nd-grade students were invited to view the exhibition and sing.

The pupils and students were also introduced to the DaWetRest project goals and activities and learned about the Danube-Black Sea Lighthouse as well as the Mission Ocean and Waters from the DaWetRest coordinator, Ekaterina Batchvarova, who is the director of CAWRI-BAS.
