DaWetRest Third General Assembly marks significant progress in Danube restoration efforts
In May, the DaWetRest project reached a significant milestone, marking 12 months of notable progress in the restoration of the Danube and Black Sea ecosystems. The Third General Assembly of Beneficiaries (GAB3), held from June 11th to 14th in Osijek, Croatia, was a pivotal event to commemorate this achievement. It brought together all DaWetRest partners to review progress, address challenges, and plan future actions.
Demonstration sites from the Middle Danube, Lower Danube, and Danube Delta presented their progress, sharing best practices in restoration actions and the involvement of local stakeholders. One of the key outcomes was the announcement of the final steps needed to complete the initial version of the project’s Digital Portal, as well as the Danube-Black Sea Lighthouse Community of Practice set to commence this autumn, both aiming to foster collaboration and knowledge sharing among stakeholders in the region.
Dr. Nadja Schlichenmaier, EcoDalli Project Coordinator, was present and shared a few words about the importance of committing to the Mission Charter in the Danube-Black Sea Lighthouse.
During the assembly, each Work Package leader provided an update on their respective progress, showcasing the collective efforts and advancements across various aspects of the project.
GAB3 emphasised the vital importance of interdisciplinary collaboration and alignment with the EU mission “Restoring our Oceans and Waters by 2030” projects. Overall, the Assembly reviewed current achievements and set future milestones to ensure that all partners are aligned in their efforts to restore and protect the Danube’s ecosystems.
