DaWetRest represented at COP29
Baku, Azerbaijan, November, 2024 – The DaWetRest project, part of the mission “Restore our Ocean and Waters by 2030,” was featured at the 29th Conference of the Parties (COP29) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). The Ministry of Environment and Waters of the Republic of Bulgaria showcased the project at its Pavilion, where representatives from over 200 countries gathered to discuss climate action.
The United Nations climate conferences or the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) are shortly known as COP. The COP is the main decision body of the UNFCCC, the international treaty body responsible for addressing climate change. The UNFCCC COP takes place every year, and is an opportunity to negotiate new measures, and review Parties’ progress against the overall goal of the UNFCCC to limit the human impact to climate change.
The Pavilion attracted the Ambassadors of all EU countries in Azerbaijan, who were briefed on the goals and progress of the DaWetRest project and its role in the Danube and Black Sea Lighthouse of the Mission.
Throughout the conference, the Pavilion welcomed a range of visitors, including policymakers, academics, NGOs, and students, who learned about the mission and its strategies for addressing climate change. The discussions highlighted the need for action to protect aquatic biodiversity and ecosystems.

Key Outcomes
The final results of the negotiations among countries were not entirely positive as the commitments of many countries were modest in view of funding to reducing the emissions. On Sunday, 24th of November, the 29th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) – COP29 officially ended. A number of texts, discussed by almost 200 countries during the two weeks of the conference, were adopted. The most important among these texts is the decision on a New Collective Quantitative Target (NCQG), which consists of tripling climate action funding for developing countries by 2035.
COP29 in Baku resulted in the Baku Climate Unity Pact, according to which the developed countries pledged at least 300 billion US dollars per year to support developing countries to meet the agreements on mitigation and adaptation to climate change. The summit also reached progress on carbon markets and the Global Goal on Adaptation. At COP29 as at all COPs numerous discussions, meetings, research and policy events, cultural happenings take place.
