Nyborg, Denmark – The Danish EU Presidency Conference for the restoration and sustainability of Europe’s ocean and waters gathered experts and stakeholders from across Europe on 23rd-24th September 2025 in Nyborg. The event was dedicated to advancing the European Union’s Horizon Europe Mission “Restore our Ocean and Waters,” and provided a platform for collaborative discussions on scaling solutions for aquatic ecosystem restoration.
DaWetRest coordinator Ekaterina Batchvarova, from the Climate, Atmosphere and Waters Research Institute at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, presented the project during the session “Parallel Workshops 2: Scaling Impact – Knowledge and Solutions for Mission Ocean and Waters Implementation.” The session brought together experts to discuss how solutions developed under the Mission Ocean and Waters initiative can be scaled across Europe. Discussions focused on examples such as technical innovations, nature-based solutions, governance approaches, community tools, and social innovation.
DaWetRest was also represented by its Associated Partner, the University of Pannonia. Viktoria Czuppon and Viola Somogyi presented their work on citizen science during the conference.
The conference aimed to support the transfer of knowledge, tools, and technical solutions developed during the preparatory phase of the Horizon Europe Mission “Restore our Ocean and Waters” into its deployment phase. As part of the Danish EU Presidency, the event brought together stakeholders to promote policy alignment, exchange solutions, and contribute to roadmap development for the implementation of the Mission and its long-term impact on aquatic ecosystems.
During the conference, participants identified transferable solutions and developed recommendations for future action. They also contributed to a Strategic Roadmap intended to support the Mission’s implementation across different European contexts.
